Eddy-Based Model

Eddy-Based Model for Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows

Understanding and predicting wall-bounded turbulence remains a significant engineering challenge, particularly at high Reynolds number and high Mach number. Inspired by recent insight into the structure and scaling of wall-bounded turbulent flows, an eddy-based model is being developed that predicts the mean velocity profile as well as near-wall turbulent intensities, spectra, and other statistics in pipe, channel and boundary layer flows. Since the model is based on eddy physics, it is expected to be robust to changes in boundary conditions and effective for all Reynolds numbers and Mach numbers up to they hypersonic regime. Eventually incorporated will be effects of pressure gradient, wall curvature, heat transfer, and compressibility.
